Selling

The following information is intended to assist sellers on how to sell at auction. If you have any questions about items that you wish to sell then we are here to help, please contact us with your enquiry

Free Valuations

Whether you are selling a single item or an entire estate then Franklin Browns are delighted to offer a free and confidential valuation service which is tailored to suit your needs.

By combining the best of today's technology with a vibrant market place we are able to maximise the potential of your items so that you can get the best possible prices for your goods.

The first step in the process is to arrange a consultation and there are several options available, they are as follows:

  • In person at the Saleroom - a Valuer is available Tuesday - Thursday from 10 - 11am.
  • Email - simply forward us an image and a brief description and we shall get back to you with an estimate.
  • For larger items or if a property is required to be cleared,  then an auctioneer can visit you at home. Please call our office for an appointment.

All pre-sale valuations are free of charge and without obligation.

Once the decision is made to sell your goods at auction with us at Franklin Browns then you will be given a vendor consignment form and a copy of our Terms & Conditions. Your goods will be entered into the next available or most suitable auction.

Vendor / Seller's Commission

Our commission rates and charges are highly competitive, they are as follows:

  • Seller's commission is 15% of the hammer price.
  • Loss/damage warranty is 1.5% of the hammer price.
  • Lotting fee is £3.00 per lot and includes internet and photography charge, allowing your items maximum exposure within an international market.

VAT is applied to all fees.

For very high value items or volume such as Country House Sales we may occasionally apply a reduced concessionary commission rate. This is dependent on what it is that you have to sell.

Carriage

We can arrange for transport and collection of furniture and larger items from the local area, please contact the office for a quote. This charge can be paid directly to the carrier or can be deducted from your vendor account. Additionally we are able to recommend a number of other local and national carriers.

Reserve Price

The reserve price is the minimum selling price to which you and Franklin Browns agree prior to sale; this is a confidential matter between Franklin Browns and the Seller. However we do not accept reserves on items with an estimated selling price of lower than £100. In the event that your reserved item fails to sell we will advise you of your future options.

Withdrawal

Franklin Browns reserves the right to charge a Withdrawal Fee of up to 10% of the reserve or lower estimated selling price and to return any item to the Vendor at the Vendor's cost.

Pre-Sale advice note

Pre-Sale Advice Note - this shall be emailed to you in the week prior to sale. In special circumstances you may request a written notice to be sent but due to time constraints it is advised to provide an email address. The Pre-Sale Advice Note documents each lot that you have entered for sale together with estimates and notification of any reserve price which you may have requested. If any of the information is incorrect then you must contact the office immediately.

After the sale

Post Sale Advice Note - this will be emailed to you in the days following the sale and will highlight if any lots have not sold.

Payment is made by bank transfer two weeks after each sale.

Please be aware that all vendor payments are subject to the purchase price of your lot being made by the buyer.
