Victorian black lacquered, abalone inlaid and gilt sewing box, with mother of pearl inlay and fitted interior and mother of pearl bobbins, etc, 35 x 17 x 26cm
Exterior appears generally in good used condition with no obvious significant losses, but the lacquer is crackled and crazed and there are paint remains on top of the abalone, making it hard to tell if any of the inlay is missing and filled in. Some small chips and wear commensurate with age. The back left corner of the lid has a crack, with some of the wood chipped and a nail visible on the lid interior.
The interior has more noticeable wear, with one large chip out the front right corner, some other small chips and repairs along the interior edges. The fitted tray shows signs of wear and use, with two back compartments showing torn velvet, general marks and dirt on the paper and fabric.
